Meetings Matter and Meetings Optimism Is on the Upswing!

Meetings matter! They matter for businesses eager to promote the value of their products, services and their strategic vision for the future. They are important for hotels, resorts, speakers, exhibitors, suppliers, and meeting planners who serve the meetings industry. More importantly, meetings are critical for those attending to stay abreast of current trends and innovations, to make needed contacts in their network, and to learn strategic skills that position them for a future they have to create.

Face-to-face contacts that meetings generate are critical to fostering a dynamic economic recovery. Embassy Suites Hotels’ Third Annual Business Travel Survey shows that face-to-face meetings are extremely important in business dealings, with 97 percent of business travelers surveyed feeling it is the most important part of developing and maintaining strong client relationships. More than half of business travelers reported having more in-person meetings with clients than in previous years.

Can the digital connection replace meetings? Respondents in the Embassy Suites Hotel’s Business Survey indicated it would take an average of five video conferences, 10 phone calls or 20 emails to replace one hour of face-to-face contact with a client. That’s why meetings matter!

Successful Meetings reports that meetings optimism is up. Among meeting buyers and suppliers alike, optimism and business levels are higher than they have been for at least six months, according to IMEX America, which released the results of its second Index of Optimism Poll. The survey found that demand for services has grown in the last six months for nearly 73 percent of respondents, while only 9 percent reported no growth. Nearly 55 percent of respondents said they’ve seen evidence in the last six months of increased event attendance or increased spending per participant.

Meetings matter, and meetings optimism is on the upswing. As discussed in The Optimism Advantage, take advantage of this trend by riding it to make meetings work for you.
