Jana Stanfield has inspired thousands singing, If I Were Brave, a song she wrote in conjunction with Jimmy Scott. She captures the longing we all have to find the courage to live our dreams. The song asks an important question—”What steps would you take today if you were brave?”
Optimists have a bias for action in pursuing the dreams and goals so many leave dormant and unfulfilled. Watch this YouTube video. Let Jana’s song, the captivating images and the inspiring quotes from my book, The Optimism Advantage, help you rekindle your own courage. In fact, the centering quote isolated in my book is Reinhold Niebuhr’s Serenity Prayer—“May God give me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.”
These are difficult times for many, and, yet, in these times men and women of courage are helping to invent a better future. William Ian Miller, the author of The Mystery of Courage, reminds us, “Read stories of courage. They make you wonder how you would have done compared with the hero of the tale, and you get very humble. You start self-querying and fantasizing about your own response, your own reaction. As the psalmist says, ‘You become what you behold.’ That’s why stories of courage take you over. They are such cries of the heart.”
The same is true with inspirational music and inspiring quotes. They help us soar when we need it most. So, take a break, enjoy the experience and then get back into the game with the courage you need to be brave…and optimistic!
